INLINE HYBRID-INK PRINTING AND COATING
In an era of shorter runs, faster turnarounds and eye-catching graphic treatments, inline or on-press coating and curing is quickly becoming a crucial production tool and competitive necessity.
Transcontinental is a leader in offering this new technology as an ideal way to apply a high gloss or final matte finish, while quickly moving jobs from the pressroom to the finishing area.
Our hybrid inks are cured inline with an I.S.T. - UV interdeck drying system. The same system installed in the extended delivery of the press allows us to "flood" or spot coat on top of the already cured hybrid inks. This gives us rich, vibrant color with your choice of high gloss (90 gloss meter) or satin finishes, with little glossback.
The advantages of UV coating are numerous:
- Products printed with hybrid inks and coatings have outstanding rub resistance and durability;
- Near instantaneous curing eliminates the need for racking and spray powder;
- Energy-cured products offer environmental benefits, quality and performance unmatched by conventional inks;
- With no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hybrid inks eliminate emissions problems and are easier to handle than earlier formulations.
The demand for UV coated jobs is being driven by designers, print buyers and brokers eager to use non-traditional substrates, such as styrene, plastic or metallized paper. Printing on these substrates has always been extremely difficult using traditional ink, but is very manageable with hybrid inks and UV curing. Additionally, the high gloss and mar-resistance of energy curing make it ideal for packaging applications.
